Naturopathic Osteopathy Course

Osteopathy takes a holistic, whole-body approach to healthcare. It uses manual ‘hands-on’ techniques to improve circulation and correct altered biomechanics, without using drugs.

Manual techniques are used to balance all the body systems and to provide overall good health and well-being.

Techniques include stretching, gentle pressure, and resistance, known as osteopathic manipulative medicine.

This course provides the basic techniques used by Osteopaths so that Naturopaths understand the principles of Osteopathy to help refer patients for osteopathic manipulations.

COURSE CURRICULUM

There are 14 lessons in this Naturopathic Osteopathy Course, some with videos, with ten assignment questions after each lesson, and a final exam online that is timed with 50 questions.

Lesson 2 – Difference between Osteopaths, Chiropractors, and Physiotherapists – a video with three practitioners who look at these differences

Lesson 3 – What is Osteopathy? – the relationship between structure and function (2 videos)

Lesson 4 – Our Fine Spine: The Backbone of Structural Integrity – simple techniques to help with our spinal structural integrity (3 videos)

Lesson 5 – Where Does Your Back Go when it Goes Out? – vertebral dysfunctions and what can be done about them (2 videos)

Lesson 6 – Finding and Fixing the Subluxations (2 videos)

Lesson 7 – Low Back Pain Definition – radiculopathy, non-specific low back pain, discogenic pain, sacro-iliac joint pain, mental factors (2 videos)

Lesson 8 – Osteopathic Principles – 5 principles, structure and function, self-healing, the body as a unit, rule of the artery, the patient, not the disease, somatic dysfunction (2 videos)

Lesson 9 – Diagnostics in Osteopathy – osteopathic techniques, mobilization techniques, HVLA direct, MET direct, functional release technique, fascial and ligamentous release techniques, visceral and cranial osteopathy (3 videos)

Lesson 10 – Osteopathic Management of Low Back Pain – methodology, SF-36 health survey, Oswestry disability index, pain diary, assessment, osteopathic treatment, treatment plan (3 videos)

Lesson 11 – Causative Factors – sitting posture, loss of lumbar extension, frequency of flexion, precipitating factors (3 videos)

Lesson 12 – The Cause of Pain – nociceptive receptor system, chemical and mechanical causes of pain, trauma, mechanical deformation, postural stress, abnormal forces (2 videos)

Lesson 13 – Osteopathic Diagnosis – therapist’s responsibility, diagnostic difficulties, taking a thorough history (2 videos)
